Scientific Name: Rhombosolea plebeia
Other Names: Dab (New Zealand), Karei (Japan), Plie de sable de nouvelle Zelande (France), Flunder (Germany), Chematida (Greece), Passera pianuzza (Italy), Platija (Spain).
Family: Pleuronectidae(righteye flounders)
Description: The average size is 25 – 35 cm. Colour brownish to greenish grey, blind side white. Adult diamond-shaped, but juveniles more rounded and easily confused with young yellowbelly flounders. Distinguished from yellowbelly by larger eyes, colour, and adult angular shape.
Main Season: Available throughout the year.
Resource: Most abundant flounder species in New Zealand. A small to moderate resource
Characteristics: Upper side fillets slightly darker than under side but whiten on cooking. Flesh moist, with delicate texture.
Common Packaging: (packaging may vary between vessels)
