Scientific Name: Hydrolagus spp
Other Names: Chimaera, Ratfish (NZ), Ghostshark (Australia), Ginbuka, Ginzame (Japan), Chimere (France), Seeratte (Germany).
Family: Chimaeridae (chimaeras)
Description: The average length is 50 – 60 cm, excluding tail filament; the average weight is 1 – 1.5 kg.
Main Season: Available all year round.
Resource: Caught mainly as a bycatch. Moderate resource.
Characteristics: Flesh is white, firm textured, boneless. Fillets sometimes marketed as pearl fillets.
Common Packaging: (packaging may vary between vessels)
