Sea Perch (Helicolenus spp.)

Common Name:	Sea Perch
Scientific Name:	Helicolenus spp.
Other Names:	Scarpee (NZ), Jacopevers (South Africa).
Family:	Scorpaenidae (scorpionfishes, rockfishes)
Description:	The average length is 25 – 35 cm and the average weight is 400 – 650 gm. Helicolenus percoides is reddish-orange with brown and yellow dorsal patterns; Helicolenus barathri is redder in colour. Moderate scales.
Main Season:	Landed all year round.
Resource:	A moderate by-catch by trawlers and line vessels. Small resource.
Characteristics:	Flesh white, medium texture. Suited to all cooking methods.
