Other Names: Southern Spiny Dogfish, Spurdog, Spineback or Spiky Dog ( New Zealand), Abura-tsuno-zame, Tsunobuka (Japan), Aiguillat (France), Dornhai (Germany).
Family: Squalidae (spiny dogfishes)
Description: The average size is 70-100cms, average weight 3-4kg. Occurs almost worldwide in cool temperature waters. Brownish grey above, with several white spots, white below.
Main Season: Available all year round.
Resource: A moderate resource.
Characteristics: Flesh white, firm textured and boneless; moist and mild flavour on cooking.
